Journal on Theatre
AADI [The Performer]’ is an online monthly Journal on Theatre in Tamil. To understand the needs of a community we need to listen to their voice and only by understanding their needs progressive actions can emerge. ‘AADI’ is a space to hear the voices of people whose livelihood is dependent on Theatre, to know about the people travelling closely with Theatre and to see the dreams of people waiting to follow Theatre.
In TamilNadu, the field of theatre is not in a good space. We as artists in the present time cannot be proud of its state. We are divided, our eyes are drained out of light and our minds had abandoned dreams. We are constantly in contradiction with everything. our personal family, money, cinema, traditional forms, fellow practitioners, language, politics, gender. We are in contradiction with every one of these. I wouldn’t blame the time we live in for these. Instead it is the short sightedness and fear of the people on the field. Result of this, year after year, we lose the younger generation who wish to become performers in a deep dark tunnel.
‘AADI’ – will be a tiny shining lamp, placed right at the entrance of this deep dark tunnel. It will help the younger generation to start their journey as a performer and walk bravely. Every month a new lamp will be placed. Exactly like the handbook of the explorers who went on their maiden sea voyages, ‘AADI’ will be a reference guide for the younger generation.
